Fabrication of Submicrometer-Sized Meloxicam Particles Using Femtosecond Laser Ablation in Gas and Liquid Environments

In pharmaceutical development, more and drugs are classified as poorly water-soluble or insoluble. Particle size reduction is a common way to fight this trend by improving dissolution rate, transport characteristics bioavailability. Pulsed laser ablation ground-breaking technique of drug particle generation in the nano- micrometer range. Meloxicam, commonly used nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory with poor water solubility, was chosen model drug. The pastille pressed meloxicam targets were irradiated Ti:sapphire (? = 135 fs, ?c 800 nm) air distilled water.
